Wine Review: Fattoria La Valentina 2014 Pecorino Colline Pescaresi

January is White Wine Month on TheWineStalker.net!

For reasons I'm sure you'd understand, the wine reviews released this month were written in November and had to be done rather quickly. So you can still expect some shenanigans but not to the extent that you may be used to from me. This'll be quick and painless. Okay, maybe not painless. But January is jam packed with white wine (except for one lonely red at the very end) so HAPPY WHITE WINE MONTH! (PS: most of them are Italian)

This is Pecorino the wine, not the cheese. Although, being a cheese addict, I wouldn't mind if it was the cheese. Pecorino is a white grape found in eastern Italy, mostly around Marche and Abruzzo. Pecorino Colline Pescaresi is an IGT within Abruzzo just for the varietal. Fattoria La Valentina was established in 1990 and also makes Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo and Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo.

I'm thinking the picture on the label is the soil, or it's the skin of The Thing from Fantastic Four. Nice looking label though; on a sloping-shoulders bottle. Back label says it's got a 13% ABV.

The color is a light gold. It's surprisingly earthy on the nose, and also has the aromas and flavors of flowers, habanero peppers, mango and apple juice. It's medium bodied, a little chalky in texture, and high in acidity. It finishes lemon-grassy and spicy.

What I liked most about it is the habanero peppers. I've gotten bell pepper and jalapeño before but not habanero. So for me that was pretty cool. But other than that it's a great wine for the price and I definitely suggest that you have food with it because it's kinda begging for some food to go with it, and it has a lot to offer food. I'd suggest Italian sausage or spicy Mexican.

It'll cost you $16 and I gave it a 4 out of 5 on price vs quality for Recommended.

QUALITY VS PRICE RATING
Price: $16
Rating: 4/5 = Recommended (what does that mean?)

The bottle used was supplied free of charge by from Classic Wine Imports, and this was an unpaid review. To have your wine reviewed follow this link.
