Here's a wine that's nice and sweet just like your Valentine... me. Smooches! And I'm putting it out there with plenty of time for you to go out and pick one up for yourself before the actual day.
This is a rosé with a little frizzante sparkle made from Muscat and Pinot Noir out of Acqui in Piedmont, Italy. It has a 7% ABV and that's all I really know about it. But that's okay because this is clearly a wine that is meant for some fun and shouldn't really be taken seriously. Put your snobbery aside, lover.
With this review I do have some "romantic" cocktail recipes that you can make with this wine, too.
You can make the My Funny Valentine:
2 dashes simple syrup
0.4 oz lemon juice
0.5 oz Benham’s gin
2 oz Chilled Castello del Poggio Sweet Rosé
Or the Raspberry Kiss:
3 to 4 Raspberries
2 oz Chilled Castello del Poggio Sweet Rosé
1 oz Tonic Water
Buuuut I'll be drinking this by itself. By myself. The wife can't have anything carbonated so that sucks for her. More wine for me. Happy Valentine's Day, baby!
The wine is copper in color. On the nose there's aromas of peaches, cantaloupe, and Welch's gummy fruit snacks. On the palate it's smooth and medium bodied with a nice acidity to compliment the sweetness. And for flavors there's peaches and red berries dipped in honey. Oooooh yeeeah. Don't lie to yourself and say that you "don't like sweet". Give in to temptation. Be naughty.
The leading food and wine magazine in Venezuela (Cocina & Vino) ranked recently the leading rums. As is to expect, being a Venezuelan publication, brands like Santa Teresa 1796 are listed. Diplomático is not mentioned. According to official measurements quoted on many rum review sites Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva has over 40 gms per litre of added sugar (equivalent of 10 teaspoons of added sugar). Also, lots of added vanillin etc. ST 1796 (as just one example) has 0 added sugar. Sure, each to his/her own taste. Just that, unless you take 3 or 4 sugars in your coffee, you may prefer a less additive-loaded rum.
