Wine Review: Santa Rita 120 Merlot 2015

October is International Merlot Month thanks to MerlotMe.com!

Santa Rita 120 Merlot 2015

Hey there, everybody! This review will be quick and easy (something I'm sure you like reading but I don't enjoy writing). Due to unexpected events I had to rush this post faster than the CW Barry Allen can fuck up a timeline so I'm just going to get right into it!

Santa Rita is based out of Chile's Alto Jahue and was founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernandez. Their 120 label was started in 1982 and is named after a group of a hundred twenty soldiers that fought in Chile's war for independence. The soldiers have a pretty cool story and Santa Rita even made an animated video about it. Watch it one YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXWO1sO7YGE

The color of the wine is a purplish red. On the nose there's aromas of violets, strawberry jam, cherries, wooden wine box, and vanilla extract. In the mouth it's medium bodied, has a solid structure, but a bit harsh in mouthfeel. There's flavors of bright cherries, plum, black table grapes and vanilla. The fruit vanishes quickly on the finish but spice and heat remain.

This is by far not one of the best Merlot's out there and it's not one that will necessarily blow your mind. But it's $7. SEVEN DOLLARS. Remember when I gave a bad rating to the $14 Cannonball Merlot earlier this month? This is twice the quality of Cannonball and half the price.

If you're looking for a $7 Merlot then this is the one you're going to want.

QUALITY VS PRICE RATING
Price: $7
Rating: 4.5/5 = Recommended / Highly Recommended (what does that mean?)

The bottle used was purchased by myself for the purpose of this unpaid review. To have your wine reviewed follow this link.
